With a constantly changing line-up, there has always been one constant at THE THE: Matt Johnson. He is the front man and singer of the Band since it’s foundation in 1979, that finally made their global breakthrough in 1986 with their album “Infected” which featured two of the band’s groundbreaking political singles “Sweet Bird Of Truth” and “Heartland. After focusing on different projects for over 20 years, Matt Johnson, who writes and produces most of the songs, made a remarkable comeback in 2021 with THE THE’s #1 live release The Comeback Special. Proving the key that turned the lock, Johnson has subsequently gone from being relatively inactive to being the busiest man in music. In 2019, Johnson scored a THE THE soundtrack to Gerard Johnson’s Muscle and released subsequent singles, ‘I Want 2 B U’ and ‘$1 ONE VOTE!’. The first new studio album of entirely original THE THE songs, Ensoulment, was released in 2024 and accompanied by the Ensouled World Tour. THE PRODUCT Odyssey is the fifth soundtrack composed by Matt Johnson, following Tony (2010), Moonbug (2012), Hyena (2015), and Muscle (2020), all of which, except for Moonbug, were directed by his brother, Gerard Johnson, as is the new film Odyssey, which will have its world premiere on November 7th. It’s a stylish, blackly comic metaphysical thriller set in the shadows of London’s housing crisis and the ruthless world of greed, addiction, and survival. The soundtrack features 19 brand-new tracks, all written and produced by Matt Johnson and recorded at Studio Cinéola in London. Johnson performed every instrument himself, blending minimal electronic funk, motorik beats, and eerie atmospherics. Gillian Glover joins him on vocals for the tracks Unrequited and Live & Let Live, which have also been released as a strictly limited 7” single. The full soundtrack comes as a deluxe CD Hardcover Mediabook, complete with a beautifully designed 84-page booklet featuring a foreword by Jason Wood, Executive Director at the British Film Institute, along with film stills and on-set photos.
