First landing in 2015, Psychic Warfare is the 11th studio album from Maryland, USA rockers Clutch. Widely seen as stoner rock pioneers, by the time this record came along they'd fine-tuned their sound, if that's a suitable term for such a purposefully loose, skudgy and sludgy scene. More so, they'd long since established themselves as the most creative and committed outfit in and around the genre. With a dash of sci-fi psychedelia and a lot of lunging, gritty, bong-in-the-basement riff-y-ness, Psychic Warfare unfolds as a bonafide hard rock juggernaut, erupting into frenzied crescendos before descending into the relentless rhythms of a sweat-soaked night in some dive bar or other. Genre defining in the most teeth-gritting, blues-influenced way.
